Swept insliore by strong winds, huge ice-fioes moved like a- glacier towards fashionable La_e Jtiuron beach resorts before dawn, crushing 46 cottages. The floes cracked into i tumbling blocks, grinding the cottages off their foundations. Ice piles as high as 40 feet were reported. Nobody was injured, but one nightclad family had to be removed from danger by neighbours.
