LEVIN GOLF CLUB MEE.TS PREPARATIONS FOR" SEASON In the unavoidable absence of the president (Professor F.'*P, 'Wilson), Mr. J. S. Dickinson presided over a'n attendance of 31 members at the recent "annual meeting of the Levin Golf Club. ; . , ; In his report, the president referred to the successful season ""of last -year and', in welcoming back members of.the club who had returned from overseas service, expressed the hope that they would again be prominent -in w^iat promises to be an outstanding season. The president ufged that the club look to the future and envisage tiie day in the not too distant future s when Levin's population would be doubled. With the steadily increas- • . ing membership that will naturally follow a return to normal conditions, the club would soon find that the presgnt fiinerhole course was , inadequate. An 18-hole couise would be a further attraction to an already attractive "to'wnl. The president urged the set'ting up ^of a committee to exaniine possible sites, and to consider finance. Officers for the ensuing season were elected as fo.Iows: — President, Mr. Hartland Buli; vice-president, Mr. H. F. MeClune; captain, Mr. W. G. Clark; secretary, Mr. H. W. S. Walker.; treasurer, Mr. W. S. Ogier; committee, Messrs. T. Coutie, S. O. Franklin, J. W. Ciarke, J. N. Saras and H. J. Hughes; auditor, Mr. E. S. Crisn.
Messrs. J. E. and C. M. Wallace conveyed to the meeting their v/ish to donate a cup to -the club in memory of the late Mr. J. Wailace, . a member who was killed 011' aciiv e service. In thanking the clonors and accepting the off er, 'Mr. H. Bull ■ referred to the iate Mr. Waliace's fine sportsmanship not only "as a golfer, but also in other sphcres where he would be greatly missed. It was dqejdgd that the* 'trophy be known as th'e "Wallace Meiiiorial Cup, an^ 'be'awardqd to the senior inpn's ch'ampionship winher. '. ^Suligcnpridiis "for the coming ! seasori were' restored to the pre-war [figures, the net aniounts being £3 13s for men, £2" 12s '6d for ladies and ! £1 lls 6d for juniors. The club I championships which have not |been played since 1941 will again ifigure as the highlight of the seaison's fixtures. j The official opening of the season l will take piace on Saturday, March 1 23, when a mixed Canadian foursome wlkl be played, to be followed | with a social gathering in the club- : house. Friends of members are i cordially invited, to attend*, and a 1 speciai welcome will be extended to | new and intending members. j The services of Mr. G. H. SorenIson, who was relinquisliing oilice | after a period of five years as secretary, were referred to by Mr. H. I Nicholson, who expressed to Mr. } Sorenson the thanks of the club for ' the very efiicient manner in which I he had carried out his duties over ! a difficult period. Appreciation was lalso expressed of the unihing i eff orts of the ladies' committee in j their work of entertaining visiting ! clubs, and o'n other occasions dur- ; ing the. season. The president co-n-j plime'nted the greenkeeper 011 the [great improvement' 111 the greens | during the past year, and erprfs-,ed jthe opinion that for a country club. they were of a high standard.
