The appoinfm-ent of Mr. J. .ej ^rendergast. of Wellington, as Fai j tory Controller, in the A. Pascoe, was gazetted last night. His Excellency the GovernorGeneral received • the Prime Minister (Rt. Hon. P. Fraser) yesterday "morning. Yesterday afternoon his Excellency received the Chief Justiee (Sir Michael Myers). A Brisbane message says that at e meeting of the Stn.te Cn^in0f-. Mv Cooper, the Premier of Queensland, announced his resignation. The reason for the resignation, Mr. Coope1 said, was that he "was getting on fr years." He will retain his seat in the State Parliament. The death occurred in Christchurch yesterday of Rev. M. A Rugby Pratt, connexional secretary of the Methodist Church of New Zealand'and formerly minister oi St. Paul's Methodist Church, Palmerston North. He is survived by his wife, son and daughter. Fivo doctors, who have been engaged in Britain to fill positions in the Mental Hospitals Department vill arrive at Auckland by the Akaroa to-day. They are «Drs. J. E. Baville, W. N. Reid, Lamb, Latham and 3tehhouse. All the new ofilcers have had considerable experience of administr'ative w.ork in mental hospitals and of the most "recently developed forms of shock treatment. and " all have -had' experience in psychiatry, * - • *
