Mrs. A. CaSSidy, Christchurch, arrived in Levin yest-erday on a visit to Mr. and Mrs. A. Larsen, Bartholornew Road. The death occurred in Wellington to-day of Mrs. Earle, wife of Mr. Charles H, Earle, president of the New Zealand Newspaper Pro- . prietors' Association, and editor of che Dominion. Mr. George F. Rox, manager of The Ahiazing- Mr. Rooklyn Vaudeville Company, arrived in Levin yesterday to arrange for the company's forthcoming visit. Mrs. W. Lett, Salisbury Street, is to-day visiting Palmerston North, where she will judge the deeorative section of the' Palmerston North dahlia show. Mr. D. J. Sweetzer, of the head office of the N.I.M.U. Insurance Company, Wellington, has -been appointed branch manager in Levin. Mr. Sweetzer has recentiy taken Up nis position here. Mr. G. A. Pascoe, who has been Factory Controller for the Minist'ry of Supply throughout the war, has been appointed acting-Director of the Industries Division of the reorganised Department of Industries and Commerce. * A civic recept-ion to Mr. Avra M. Wafren, Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary of the United States, and Mrs. Warren was given by the Mayor of "Wellington (.Mr. Appleton) on Tuesday. The Minister of Agriculture (Mr. Roberts) represenred the Government. Special greetings Were extended by Mr. Warren to New Zealand from General Patrick Hurley and General Vandergrift now commanding the Ma'rine Corps who were in New Zealand in 1943. Fitting tribute to the memory of the late Mr. William Thomas was paid yesterday morning in a service at the assembly hall of Horowherma Conege, where, as principal, so much of his striking service hau been centred. The ^taff and pupils were gathered to honour their late beloved principal, and there was also a large attendance of friends, oearing testimony to the high esteem. in. which the late Mr. Thomas was held and the regret feit throughout the community at his untimeiy passing. Rev. A. Salmond conducted the service and the hymn, "Fight the Good Fight,'"' was sung.
