Several demonst-rators were 1 wounded, some seriously, when the | Egyptian police again opened fire j and charged with batons in an enj deavour to disperse stone-throwing ! mobs attacking British clubs in Alexandria to-day. Five of the ! Egyptians injured in yesterday's demonstrations have died, bringing ! the death roll to twenty-'two, including two British soldiers. j The Prime Minister, Sidky Pasha. ! flew from Cairo to Alexandria t@1 dav. I Egyptian troops and ^police have i been posted at all street corners, ; whlle lorry-loads of troops patrolJed the main streets. The British j evacuated their hostelS during the ; night. Sidky Pasha toured the riot area' and conferred with the Governor and police commandant, "' while a crowd outside cheered and cried | : "Long live Sidky, liberator of the ; nation." _ A mob demanding the ' "evacuation of the British troops" ; surrounded and brought to a stand- j still Sidky's car, when the Premier set out 011 a tour of the city. They ! refused to move and Sidky was ! I forced to complete his journey in an Egyptian army truek. The city to-night was much i quieter, and conditions were almost | normal.
