MR. AND MRS. LOWRY ENTERTAINED

FUNCTION AT FOXTON The Masonic Hall, Foxton, was the scene of an interesting and enjoyable function on Tuesaay evening of last week when local and aistrict residents gathered to meet Mr. L. G. Lowry, M>P., and Mrs. Lowry. Ihe hall was well filled and those present greeted Mr. and Mrs. Lowry with musical honours as they entered the hall. During an interval in the dancing tne guests were weicomed oy tne President of the Foxton Laoour Party, Mr. J. E. Kiilick, who acted as chairman. The Mayor, Mr. Poamore, also spoice, as dld the Mayor of Shannon, Mr. Downes. All speakers, in | weicommg Mr. Lowry, expressed the j hope that, with all his supporters oenind him doing their bit, he would be enabled to continue his past good work on behalf of the eiectors of Otaki Electorate for many years to come. A dainty bouquet was presented to Mrs. Lowry and a buttonhole to Mr. Lowry by Leila Coriett. Sprays and buttonholes were presented aiso to the Mayoress, Mrs. Podmore, and Mrs. Kiilick. These- were made by Mesdames Proctor and Brooks. At a later junction Mr. Lowry addressed the gathering, giving some interesting siaelignts on his travels when he journeye'd to England a's one of the New Zeaiand representatives at the Empire Parliamentary Conference.- His remarks emphasised the comparative ease and luxury of life in New Zeaiand as compared with conditions in overseas countries. Mr. Lowry concluded by addressing a few remarks | to tne younger mernbers of the ; audience on the need for an apprejciation of the fundamentals of ihuman relationships, in order that Ithey see the need for each and all jgoing to take their places as use- ) tui mernbers of the community. i Only thus could a new Social Order jbe set on a firm basis. ! Mr. Lowry concluded his address ! by once again thanking the gathlering for the reception accorded ! him and Mrs. Lowry, and expressled appreciation of .the local talent in the rendering of their items. Items were contributed during the evening by the following: Mrs. Chittenden (songs), Misses M. and C. Byne (duets), and Ted Shortt (tap-dance). Th£ accompanist was Mrs. Byne, while Mr. T. East supplied the dance muslc. Mr. D. D. McKenzie was a capable M.C. The tasty supper was served by the ladies' coinmittee, its mernbers sparing no effort in their desire to make the evening the success it was, and the hope was freely expressed that another function such as this one could be held in the near future.
