SUCCESSFUL GALA DAY The gala day organised by the Levin Tennis Club on Saouraay to aid the R.S.A. Memoriai Hall Funci was an outstanomg success from every point of view. At runction.. organised by tne club patrons have come to expect something of a novel nature, and. in this tncy weie not disappointed, the sweet stall during the day and the barbecue supper during the evening giving evidence of the originaiity. oi the band of young people who were responsible xor tms most successful elfort. The day commenced with a junior tournament, which drew a favouraole entry of juvenile enthusiasts, and after some spirited maicn^ ivliss Judich Rengo and Master M.
Fox annexed the trophies. The weather gradually improved during the mornmg and tne arternoun vas sunny and warm. The tennis drew an entry of some 60 players, , wlio betwoen games were enter- ! tained at other attractions, includ- j ing a well-stocked stall, and swim-j ming at two private swimming pools belonging to members of the club. At a suitable time the ladies .oLithe xornmittee., served a, delicious afternoon tea at tables on the lawn. The attraction for the evening was an outdoor-dance on No. 1 court to music by the Swing Staioi and it drew a record attendance. Although the surface of the eoun proved a little difficult at first foi dancing, the dancers soon got the idea of it, and the function went iwith a swing. A feature of ihe evening was the barbecue supper ! prepared over an open fire by two j of the club's most experienced male lcooks, supplemented by the eiforts j of the ladies in the ciuD-house. I Many after-theatre patrons came down to sample the oarbecue and itayed on to dance. It was in all a most successful day, and the ooject for which it was organised will ^ciiehb m generous measure.
