HOROWHENUA SHOW
ASSOCIATION COMMITTEE MEETS The monthly meeting of the general committee of the A. and P. Association was held on Friday evening. The president (Mr. J. A. Kilsby) occupied the chair and there was a good attendance of members, while apologies were received from Messrs..G. D. Harris, A. M. Scott, G. B. Meates and G. W. Munford. Before proceeding with the business, the president said that since the last meeting four members of the association had passed away. These were Mrs. K. Shaw, Mr. O. J. Bubb, Mr. P. W. Goldsmith and Mr. J. Dittmer. A vote of sympathy was passed with relatives by members standing in silence. Show Gate Takings In connection with the show, Mr. G. D. Harris submitted a report that during the first day he employed nine gatekeepers, who collected a total of £81 10s 6d. On the second day he employed twelve gatekeepers, who collected £263 4s 8d. The gate money at the night show netted another £45 10s 6d, making a total for the show of £390 5s 8d. The president thanked the following for their indispensable work during the show days. Mr. G. D. Harris, Boys' Training Centre, A.A. officers, the traffic inspectors, the police, caterers, Mr. S. J. Wilson, publican's booth, Mr. R. W. Evans, Mr. J. M. Irving, Mr. J. A, Goodwin (secretary) , the Horowhenua Scottish Society, Mrs. A. L. Speedy and her helpers in the home industries, Mr. L. Melville, Mr. J. W. Gimlett, Mr. W. J. Beates, the stationmaster (Mr. D. Hay) , the concert party which provided the entertainment at the night show, the Longburn Freezing Works and the Gear Meat Company for the judging of the carcase competitions. The Next Show The next show date was fixed for the last Friday in January, 1947, and the following Saturday. Donations The secretary (Mr. J. A. Goodwin notified that the following donations had been received since the last meeting: Mrs. G. Kebbell and Messrs. C. Moore, V. E. Clarke, W. J. Lancaster, and G. C. Knight £1 each, and W. M. Simcox £l ls. Appreciation was expressed of this assistance. Special thanks were extended to the Kuku-Manakau Dairy Company for the cartage of pig and cattle food for the show.
