Tennis at Rangiora

Good tennis seems assured for the North Canterbury open tournament at Rangiora today and Sunday. 7The 84 entries include a good representation of leading Christchurch players who dominate the top seedings in the A grade sections. Hugh Robinson is the only North Canterbury , player to make the top eight men, but he has a dual affiliation and plays most of his inter-club tennis in Christchurch. i The players will compete 'for sponsored prizes to a total value of $l2OO, with the men’s and women’s A grade competitions carrying prizes of $lOO for the winners, $5O for the runners-up, and $25 for each of the losing semifinalists. The tournament will be played at three venues, using the courts of the Rangiora and Southbrook clubs and the Rangiora High School, beginning at 8.30 a.m. each day. All finals will be played at the Rangiora club tomorrow. The seedings are.— Men, A grade.— singles: Peter Hampton 1, Brett Hibbert 2, Hugh Robinson 3, John Honeywell 4, Alistair Chapman 5, Vernon Aubrey 6, Michael Mooney 7, Greg Young 8.
