Call to retain P.E.P.
PA Auckland t r The Government has t been asked to reverse im- r mediately its decision to f phase out Labour Depart- e ment job-creation g schemes. The demand was made t yesterday at a meeting of r combined beneficiaries f and unemployed groups. e Several schemes, in- t eluding the project em- c ployment programme and i
the work skills development programme, are to be abolished over 15 months. They will be replaced by revamped and expanded training programmes. The meeting called on the Government to reverse immediately its policy and retain the existing schemes until there was clear evidence of permanent jobs for the unemployed.
