Next envoy to Rome named
PA Wellington New Zealand’s next Ambassador to Rome will be an assistant secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr Tony Small. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Lange, said Mr Small was expected to take up his appointment at the beginning of May, in succession to Mr Gordon Parkinson. Mr Small joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1954 after working in a private law firm and in the Public Trust
i Office. t He has served as head I of the legal and United r Nations divisions in Welli ington and in New York and Canberra. i From 1978 to 1982 he 1 was Ambassador in ) Vienna with responsibility t also for relations with , Eastern Europe. He was Ambassador in Peking from 1982 to 1985. j His present responsibilities cover the United Nations, Commonwealth, i Middle East, and African t divisions. _____
