Good sleep, and fishing
PA Auckland Trout fishing and a good night’s sleep were the two things the veteran American actor, Robert Mitchum, had in mind when he arrived at Auckland Airport.
Both he and his wife Dorothy came well prepared, wearing fishing hats presented by Air New Zealand before they left the United States.
Mitchum, aged 68, is the guest of the Government as part of a combined New Zealand film and trade industry promotion. The actor, whose many films include "Ryan’s Daughter” and more recently, “The Ambassador,” will receive a special tribute at the Santa Barbara Film Festival in Los Angeles next month.
New Zealand cinema will also feature at the festival and, as Mitchum had never seen New Zealand, the Tourist and Publicity Department and Air New. Zealand organised an eight-day tour for him.
Included are visits to 1 Rotorua, Queenstown, Milford Sound and Wellington, where the Minister of Overseas Trade, Mr Moore, will be host at a luncheon for him.
