r HEALTH DEPARTMENT OF WESTERN AUSTRALIA PSYCHIATRIST SUPERINTENDENT PSYCHIATRIC SERVICES BRANCH POSITION NO: 038854 Applications are invited from suitably qualified Psychiatrists to undertake the challenge of instituting a dedicated psychiatric rehabilitation service within the Health Department of Western Australia. The successful applicant will act as Superintendent for all dedicated psychiatric rehabilitation facilities of the Department which encompass some inpatient services as well as those provided within the community at day centres, sheltered workshops, activity centres and in hostel residential settings. The Psychiatrist Superintendent in charge of rehabilitation will head a multi-disciplinary team to formulate policy, co-ordinate activities, provide necessary educational programmes and act as a resource for the Psychiatric Services Branch and other areas in the Health Department and community at large. Active liaison with other medical practitioners, allied health professionals and nursing staff will be expected and there are opportunities for research interests to be undertaken in association with the Branch’s Research and Evaluation Unit. The position offers an opportunity to play an active role in developing a cohesive and comprehensive rehabilitation service for psychiatric patients at a time ‘ of significant change with recent reorganisation within the State Health Services. SALARY: $67,790 per annum. Rights of private practice are granted for up to three hours per week, to a maximum of 25% of t-he basic salary. Also the appointee may work up to three additional sessions each week in the Psychiatric Services Branch in excess of usual hours of duty. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: Eligible for registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Medical Board of Western Australia. Membership or Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists or equivalent is essential and it is expected that the successful applicant will have had a wide experience within the field. CONDITIONS OF SERVICE: Australian citizenship is a prerequisite for appointment to the permanent staff. Conditions of service include superannuation benefits, three months' long service leave, after seven years’ continuous service, four weeks'annual leave, cumulative sick leave entitlements and other general conditions applicable to permanent officers employed under the provisions of the Public Service Act, 1978. Non Australian citizens are eligible for temporary appointment. TRANSPORT AND REMOVAL ASSISTANCE: The cost of first class rail fares or economy class air fares incurred by the appointee, spouse and dependent children under the age of sixteen years (where applicable), plus a reasonable contribution towards the cost of transporting essential personal and household effects to Western Australia.
