Teachers’ place in society
Sir, —I agree with M. Potter (February 11) that our teachers have allowed themselves to become inefficient bureaucrats. As standards such as University Entrance examinations are removed, so too is the necessity for teachers to produce in their pupils a certain standard of education, i.w. good results. However, it does not' follow that vandalism against school buildings is being done by people showing hostility towards our present educational institutions. Vandalism occurs where there is a lack of respect for private property. It is a bad substitute for communication, at the taxpayers’ expense.—Yours, etc.,
M. J. DONNALL. February 11, 1986.
