Pulp workers to return
PA Rotorua Striking pulp and paper workers at the Tasman Pulp and Paper Company’s Kawerau mill are expected to return to work today, according to an announcement in the High Court at Rotorua yesterday. Tasman had applied for an injunction which would have forced the workers to abide by the disputes procedure in their industrial agreement.
Discussions between the company and the North-
ern Federation of Pulp and Paper Workers were held in the High Court after Mr Justice Ellis adjourned the hearing earlier yesterday. Counsel for the company, Dr Gerard Curry, read a statement of settlement to the Court late in the morning. It said the federation had agreed to comply with a ruling by an industrial mediator, Mr Walter Grills, and that workers were expected to return to work after a meeting at the site today.
