Hanmer ace
A hole-in-one on the 152-metre par three 10th at Hanmer recently contributed to a memorable week-end for Mr Ron Mottram, of Christchurch. Mr Mottram’s achievement will not go down in the official records anywhere but his two brothers-in-law, Craig Roberts and Stephen Green, who accompanied him on the 18-hole round, were able to vouch for its authenticity. None are official club members but all consider themselves reasonable golfers. Mr Green said that Mr Mottram used a No. 6 iron on the 10th tee. “The ball first appeared to be heading for the right-hand bunker then began to fade to the left, was momentarily out of the sight in the gully in front of the green then reappeared and was rolling forwards the pin.” The ball was no longer visible on the green from the tee so there was a fair amount of speculation as to whether it had dropped down the hole or was tucked in behind the pin,” said Mr Green. “We walked to the green and there it was, in the cup.” Mr Green confirmed that, as yet, Mr Mottram had not “done the decent thing” and shouted for his companions. “But we’ll get around to that eventually,” he said.
