Ageing job seekers
Sir,—Thank goodness racial and sex discrimination have been phased out in New Zealand. They are being consigned to history. But there is still age discrimination, especially In employment. Persons in their forties and fifties who apply for work are often told that they are a bit “long in the tooth” and will not be considered. In many cases these people have acquired skills and experience and have paid thousands of dollars in taxes over the years. They have every right to work. During the last war the employers and the Government took all ages on for essential industry. Many were compulsorily manpowered. — Yours, etc., E. L. ROSS. February 12, 1986.
