Wage increases

Sir, — In “The Press” of February 11, Mr Palmer says the police cannot strike, as they would be breaking the law. They got their well-deserved pay rise before this observation, as did nurses and almost all. Even beneficiaries got a mite. A few tail-enders, such as our airline pilots, called gangsters by Mr Lange, traffic officers and others are still battling for their share, and why not? Our M.P.s and top State servants accepted their 33% per cent increase without demur. I have accused this socalled socialist Government of adolescent idealism and lacking mature realism. Now I must add that it is guilty of demagoguery and empty rhetoric. — Yours, JAMES J. DUNCAN. February 11, 1986.
