Men guilty of rape
After deliberating for almost three hours, a jury in the High Court yesterday found two men guilty of twice raping a pregnant woman, aged 20. Mr Justice Hanlie Boys remanded David Baxter McCreath, aged 26, and Stephen Bruce McClintock, aged 20, both unemployed, to February 25 for sentence. The remand is in custody.
Evidence was given that McCreath and McClintock arrived at the woman’s flat in the early hours of September 28. She was staying alone in the flat that night but normally a couple also lived there.
The two men grabbed the woman as she was sitting in a chair in the lounge and carried her into the bedroom,
threw her on the bed, and took turns at raping her. Mr B. M. Stanaway appeared for the Crown, Mr S. C. Barker for McCreath, and Mr G. M. Brodie and Mrs A. Buchanan for McClintock. The defence called no evidence. The trial began on Monday.
