New service starts
NZPA-Reuter Chicago United Airlines yesterday began flying to New Zealand and 11 other points in Asia and the Pacific over the routes which Pan American World Airways pioneered with its China Clipper service a half century ago. United, the world’s largest privately owned airline, called the. increase of 74 weekly flights over 104,000 route kilometres “an unprecedented oneday expansion of operations.” United’s Pacific service now includes Auckland, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Melbourne, Osaka, Peking, Seoul, Shanghai, Singapore, Sydney, Taipei and Tokyo. United said service to Manila will be added when the Philippine Government approves landing rights.
