No increase in stress
Stress has not increased in the last two years for half the farmers surveyed in the latest Lincoln Col-
lege Agricultural Economic Research Unit survey of farmer intentions and opinions. The unit asked farmers if there had been any change in the level of stress suffered by them or their families in the last two years. Fourty-four per cent of the farmers > said stress had increased, and 6 per cent said there was less stress. Cost of finance was seen as causing the most stress, 37 per cent giving this reason. The Government was blamed for stress by 6 per
cent of those who responded. Lack of income and product prices were each given as the reason for stress by 5 per cent of farmers. Six per cent of the farmers blamed doubts about the future as causing stress. The weather causes stress for 13 per cent of farmers, and long hours of work on a farm for 12 per cent Full results of the farmer intentions and opinions survey will be published by the Agricultural Economic Research Unit later this year.
