Leading trotter purchased
PA Wellington Chiola Hanover, America’s Trotter of the Year in 1979, with life-, time earnings of $U5684,958, has been bought for stud duties by Redvale Standardbreds, Ltd, a listed subsidiary of National Bloodstock Corporation. The stallion, a multiple stakes and classics winner, will be the highest stake-earning sire of trotters to stand in the southern hemisphere. A son of Hickory Smoke, Chiola Hanover represents the Axworthy sire line which has been successful in New Zealand through Bachelor Hanover and Lumber Dream. He won 21 races between two and four and had a best mile time as a three year old of Imin 57.45. He has two crops racing and has produced a sub two-minute miler and several stakes winners. His winners include Clayjaba, a multiple stakes winner with earnings of $U5100,264, and Reading Matter, which has earnings of $U523,557 and a best mile time at three of Imin 57.25.
