Penalties for parents
Sir, — I agree whole-heart-edly with the idea of the Opposition spokesman on justice, Mr Paul East, of parents being held responsible for the criminal actions of their children, (“The Press,” February 12.) This proposed sting in the pocket of those parents with out-of-hand children would quickly lead to more responsibility, concern and control, if for no other reason than the possible expense. While I agree only genuine love and attention can stop children going off the rails, stiff penalties on the parents of children with criminal leanings will go a long way to protect others from becoming innocent victims of such sadness and their crimes. — Yours, etc., ROBIN BOOTH. February 11, 1986.
