Maui gas 'should be left’
PA Wellington The remaining unallocated Maui gas should be left in the ground, according to the Democratic Party. The Minister of Energy, Mr Tizard, had earlier said the best possible use for the gas would be for electricity generation. However, the party’s energy spokesman, Mr Terry Heffernan, said there was no “surplus” to allocate.
“It is only false economics, dictated by the high profits the Government has guaranteed the oil companies, to argue that all the gas should be used up now, instead of left to the future generations to whom it belongs,” he said.
