Minister steps in on air dispute

PA Wellington A compulsory conference to resolve the Air New Zealand catering staff dispute has been called by the Minister of Labour, Mr Rodger. Mr Rodger said the conference had been called under section 120 of the Industrial Relations Act and would be held in Auckland later this week. An immediate resumption of normal duties by the catering staff and the lifting of suspension notices by Air New Zealand was included in the terms of reference for the conference, he said. The dispute, . between the Hotel and Hospital Workers’ Union and Air New Zealand, is over a breakdown in talks in the renegotiation of the airline’s catering employees’ award. Flight kitchens in Auck-

land, Wellington, and Christchurch have been closed since January 26, when catering staff refused to carry out some of their normal duties and were suspended by the company.
