Woman alleges abduction and taking of car
Christchurch detectives are investigating the alleged abduction of a woman in strange circumstances on Monday evening. The woman, aged 39, single, told the police that she had gone to the Blenheim Road Motor Inn during the afternoon for a drink. There she met some strangers, and struck up a conversation with them. Later she drove them round Christchurch in her red 1975 Ford Falcon. She took them shopping, and to the bank.
During the evening they had a few more drinks and dinner at a restaurant. The woman told detectives that they had continued to drive round during the night, visiting several places, including a service station to fill up with petrol. “Eventually the people
she was with decided that they wanted her car,” said a C. 1.8. spokesman. They tied the woman up, dumped her outside the Highway 61 motorcycle gang’s headquarters in Worcester Street, and drove off.
Gang members found her outside their gate yesterday morning and looked after her until the police arrived. “They (the Highway 61 members) gave us every assistance,” said the police spokesman. The woman suffered bruising some time during the incident. Detectives want to hear from service station night staff who might remember putting petrol in a red 1975 XB Falcon, with the registration number HU7620 or similar, during Monday evening or early yesterday morning. They are treating the incident as an abduction.
