Electricity group backs Maui idea
PA Wellington The Electrical Supply Authorities’ Association strongly supports the statement of the Minister of Energy, Mr Tizard, that Maui gas field reserves be used to generate electricity. The president of the association, Mr Innes Kerr-Taylor, said the statement “reflects promotion of the most economic use of existing Elec- . tricity Division facilities”. « It also paved the way ; towards consolidation of the division’s capital ex- ’ penditure in projects designed for future generation and distribution of energy. “That can only be good * for the country,” he said. A decision to use the * gas for electricity genera- "t tion would give the Indus- • try more than 20 years to ’ plan carefully and give effect to an efficient and far-reaching programme J which would benefit all. * The association earlier J made a submission to the • Energy Advisory Commit- ’ tee when it was consider- * ing what uses Maui gas ’ reserve could be put to. The submission fav- ;• oured electricity genera- < tion for a number of ’ reasons including that the Marsden B power station ; could at last come on 1 stream.
