New deputy chairman

Wellington reporter

Mr Barrie Tucker, general secretary of the Public Service Association, has been appointed deputy chairman of the Commerce Commission, the Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Caygill, announced yesterday. Mr Tucker is retiring from his P.S.A. position and expects to work four days a week for the commission. The commission has been without a deputy chairman since Mr Hal Sadgrove relinquished his position in March, 1985, although it had its full quota of five members until the retirement of Mr

Oliver Smart on February 1.

Mr Tucker expects the work load of the commission to increase once the Commerce Bill is passed into law later this year. He said that the commission would have a much more substantial administrative staff who would be able to examine the larger mergers and takeovers much more closely. Other members of the commission are Mr John Collinge, the chairman; Ms Kerrin Vautier, a member of the Fletcher Challenge Board; and a former National member of Parliament, Ms Colleen Dewe.
