Concert venue change
The venue for the Dire Straits concert on March 7 should be known tomorrow after technical checks on Lancaster Park and Queen Elizabeth II Park, said the concert promoter, Mr lan Magan. Mr Magan said he had reconsidered venues after his discovery that ticket sales had outstripped the capacity of Addington Show Grounds. Ticket sales had exceeded 45,000, and Mr Magan expected a late rush to boost sales to 65,000.
Lancaster Park was the largest of the alternative venues, but factors other than size would have to be considered, he said.
These included crowd comfort, a stage site, power supply, parking, and the ground’s acoustics.
