Top drivers Ruapuna-bound
All the top drivers in New Zealand will be at Ruapuna Speedway this week-end for the national sprintcar championships to be run over three heats. Also contested will be the sixth round of the $lO,OOO Mainline Cars “Outlaw” sprintcar series. Among the drivers competing will be the reigning
New Zealand champion, Noel Goodwin (Auckland), last year’s national championship runner-up North Island champion, lan Easton (Shannon), and the South Island champion, Bruce Hobbs (Christchurch). Easton retained his North Island title at Palmerston North last week-end gaining 46 points over the three
heats to head off Goodwin (43), Tony Allen (42) and Hobbs (40). After 17 races at five different tracks throughout New Zealand this season Easton leads Goodwin by eight points in the $lO,OOO series. The series will finish at Western Springs in March, the winner taking home $5OOO and the runner-up $2OOO.
