N.Z. foreign aid ‘not enough’
PA Auckland The New Zealand Government does not contribute enough money towards foreign aid, according to a visiting evangelical leader, Dr Ron Sider. Dr Sider, a professor of theology in Philadelphia, said in Auckland that about 0.2 per cent of New
Zealand’s gross national product went towards foreign economic aid, but 1 per cent would be more acceptable.
Some European countries came close to this figure. The United States, however, contributed only 0.17 of its G.N.P. “Most people seem more concerned about the nuclear issue than about the poor,” he said. J “Don’t get me wrong. I applaud Mr Lange’s antinuclear policy but it should not stop there.” Dr Sider had a chance to congratulate the Prime Minister on his policy when he interviewed him for “transformation,’’ a magazine the theologian edits. He has also written and edited about 12 books on topics such as world hunger and violence.
His latest, “What Dow It Mean to be wiE be published this It Jeris wi|b what
