Welsh corgis win praise
The South Island Welsh Corgi League has celebrated its twenty-fifth anniversary with a championship show at Riccarton Bush. The 125 entries were praised by a visiting English judge, Mrs Betty Peachey, who said that if the standard of New Zea-land-bred dogs was maintained, the breed would go from strength to strength. She said the younger New Zealand-bred dogs were as good as those in other parts of the world. The show’s best dog was Revelmere Cock-a-too, owned by Mrs Hyde (Christchurch). The reserve-best was Belroyd Ocean Flyer, owned by Mr and Mrs Robertson (Wellington). Both dogs were imported from Britain. The best-of-breed of the Cardigan Corgis was Bluemeadows Song of Gem, owned by Mrs P. Jessep (Christchurch) and the reserve-best, Benvenuto Preference, owned by Mrs J. Inwood (Christchurch).
