Live sheep exports
Sir,—ln return, I thank D. T. Archbold (February 5) for expressing his thoughts. While he is naturally concerned about better
remuneration for his livelihood, I am concerned about the suffering of the sheep consigned to endure extreme distress for weeks. I agree with him, that New Zealand meat workers are not beyond reproach, often leaving thousands of lambs and sheep in stockyards without any provision or even water while they walk off on strike. D. T. Archbold will have now read “Live sheep exports banned” (“The Press,” January 6) and for what reason? Could he link his views and thoughts with mine? — Yours, etc., NATALIE TAYLOR. February 6, 1986. Sir,—lt seems that this trade in sheep is to go ahead. If one man tortured one sheep he would be prosecuted and sent for a psychiatric examination. Are we to believe that mass torture of sheep permitted by people in authority is now acceptable? — Yours, etc., M. M. ROYDS. February 6, 1986.
