Paper firm may seek Court help
PA Auckland Strikes have closed the pulp and paper mill at Kawerau, and the Tasman Pulp and Paper Company is likely to have to seek High Court help today to achieve a resumption of work, the “New Zealand Herald” reports. The latest labour problems started over a claim for an extra 26c an hour by 10 men. That shut down the pulp mill, which produces mainly for the export market. As work ran out, other workers were suspended and, by Saturday morning, others had walked out in protest, halting all pulp and paper production.
