Support for strike at hospital

PA Wellington Hospital workers in the Southern North Island have voted to strike in support of striking kitchen staff at Northland hospitals, said a union spokesman. Mr Peter Cullen, of the Hotel and Hospital Workers’ Union, said meetings had now been held in almost all hospitals in the bottom half of the North Island. Members had voted to give financial support to the Northland workers who have struck over the issue of hospital catering being contracted out to private firms. Members had also voted to give 14 days notice of strike action to the various hospital boards in the area, he said.
