Hunt for man in bush
PA Wellington The police were still combing bush in the eastern Bay of Plenty late yesterday for a man wanted after a fatal shooting In Taupo on Saturday. Police from Taupo and Rotorua were searching for Paul Patterson, aged
26, described as a Maori, 177 cm (sft Bin) tall, of heavy build, with long black hair, and last seen wearing denim jeans and jacket. Eighteen armed offenders squad and regular police went to a rugged bush and forest area at Waiohau, north of Murupara near the Urewera National Park, to look for Patterson, also known as Sonny White.
The search results from a double shotgun shooting at ar Taupo house in which a man died and a woman suffered serious leg injuries. The dead man was Wallace Tahau, aged 38, of Waitahanul. He died of stomach wounds. Audrey White, aged 24, a housewife, is In a satisfactory condition in Taupo Hospital after surgery.
