Bancroft impresses
Phil Bancroft, the young Canterbury rugby league stand-off half, is obviously impressing some experienced observers in his first British season. Each month the authoritative magazine, “Open Rugby,” selects “form teams” from the British first and second divisions. In its February issue Bancroft is chosen ahead of candidates from the 17 other clubs in the second division. The fine performances of Bancroft have been an important factor in his club;)Rochdale Hornets,
becoming a strong contender for promotion after many years in the lower half of the competition table. Bancroft also derives considerable pride from being a member of clubs, though half a world apart, which have similar insignia. His Canterbury club, Halswell, also has the hornet as its emblem.
