Health syllabus schools named
More than 70 schools in the northern half of the South Island are among 500 which have been given approval to use the new health syllabus next year.
The Government had earlier approved the introduction this year of the syllabus in 38 schools. Nine schools in Christchurch took part in a pilot scheme for the syllabus last year. The syllabus includes controversial sections on sex education. It can only be used at schools where the governing body has given approval. Parents reserve the right to withdraw their children from classes.
Primary schools approved to use the syllabus are Addington, Allenton, Ashburton Borough, Banks Avenue, Barrytown, Belfast, Blackball, Briggston, Chertsey, Dobson,
Dunsandei, Governor’s Bay, Grantlea, Greymouth Intermediate, Halkett, Hammersley Park, Highfield, Hinds, Kaiata, Karoro, Kendal, Kumara, Kumara Junction, Lake Brunner, Lyttelton Main, Methven, Mount Pleasant, Northcote, Pareora East, Parkview, Paroa, Phillipstown, Prebbleton, Redcliffs, Richmond, Rotomanu, St Joseph’s (Leeston), St Joseph’s (Timaru), St Peter’s, Shirley Intermediate, Shirley Primary, Somerfield, Southbridge, Springbrook, Stillwater, Sumner, Sydenham, Tai Tapu, Taylorville, Thorrington, Timaru Main, Timaru South, Timaru West, Tinwald, Waimataltai, Watlington Intermediate, West Spreydon, Whataroa, Woodbury. Secondary . schools approved are Aranui, Avonside, Burnside, Cashmere, Greymouth, Hagley, Inangahua, Linwood, Mairehau, Marian College, Mountainview, Papanui, Rangiora, Shirley Boys, Temuka.
