Drug tests for N.Z. athletes
PA Wellington Selected athletes will be drug tested during the Countrywide national track and field championships in Christchurch, on March 7 to 9. The New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, which announced the inauguration of the tests yesterday, said it was a response to international and Olympic administration policy. ■ The association said
some of the athletes eligible for the Edinburgh Commonwealth Games or world junior championship teams will be asked for samples, to be taken by the Edinburgh team doctor, Dave Gerrard, at the championships. Mr lan Boyd, chairman of the N.Z.A.A.A., said the testing will serve to make New Zealand competitors familiar with procedure used at main international competitions and stand as a deterrent.
