Situations Vacant Situations Vacant RESEARCH DIRECTOR TEXTILES APPLICATIONS ARE invited for the position of Director of the Research Institute Textile Service (Inc). Research Institute Textile Services is a small but expanding organisation providing technical advisory services, testing facilities and research support for the textile and garment industries and the laundry and drycleaning industries. Present staff consists of five scientists, two technicians and a secretary, but with vigorous and enthusiastic direction, there is potential for considerable expansion. THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT WILL: (1) Be an Honours graduate in Science, Engineering or Technology. (2) Have had substantial industrial experience. Preferably in the textiles industry, but failing that, an allied industry; or have had sufficient experience in working with industry to demonstrate a strong ability to “sell” science and technology to industry. (3) Have demonstrated the administrative ability necessary to organise and control all aspects of the Institute operations from the laboratory programme to public relations, financial control and industrial liaison. (4) Have first-class communication skills, both oral and written. (5) Have the personality to earn the respect and confidence of industry at top level, and to widen the membership base. (6) Have the enthuslasim, versatility and technical skills to upgrade and expand the Institute’s services. The Institute is the Independent incorporated society, operated by the textile, garment and fabricate industries with some Government support. The Laboratories are located on the D.S.I.R. Campus at Gracefield (Lower Hutt) and enjoy excellent cooperation with D.S.I.R. groups in the area. The Institute provides a technical back-up service to some 250 member companies. It undertakes applied research, problem solving, technical advisory work and testing on a wide range of problems. The successful applicant will be expected to expand these services in both scope and depth. Conditions of Employment are similar to those applying in the State Services. Salaries are reviewed annually, and superannuation (interchangeable with Government and Universal Superannuation, is available.
