Title to Heathcote XI
Bowleys Hornby convincingly defeated Heathcote to win the DB Christchurch Suburban . Cricket Association’s one-day title at the Heathcote Domain. Hornby, which had the services of four senior suburban representatives, Gary McManus, Bob Kerr, Barry Adam and Ron Johnson, won the toss and elected to bat on a good batting wicket. Its allotted 50 overs yielded 175 runs for eight wickets. Johnson top scored with a 64 which earned him the player of the day award. Having got off to a bad start — it was six for 73 at
one stage — Heathcote was all out in the final over for 136 in reply. Hornby’s Mike Pannell did the damage with four wickets from his eight overs, four of them maidens, for only 19 runs. The fielder of the day. award went to the Hornby captain, Gary McManus, who took two nice catches. The player of the series award was won by the Hoon Hay pace bowler, Jim Bennie. Scores. -- Bowleys Hornby 175/8 (R. Johnson 64, T. Flutey 31, B. Kerr 24; D. Moody 2/9) beat Heathcote 136 (M. Pannell 4/ 19, B. Adam 2/33). ■
