Retailers advised on tax
Retailers should become more conversant with the administrative details of goods and services tax, says Mr Barry Purdy, executive director of the Retailers’ Federation.
Mr Purdy said retailers should discuss issues such as how to record and pay the tax, and how to keep their accounts, with their accountants. Such matters would not be dealt with in detail in pending seminars on the tax, he said. The seminars would cover marketing issues such as pricing, advertising, and display, and the effect of the tax on profitability. The federation is organising the seminars with the Inland Revenue Department. South Island seminars will begin next month.
