Tahiti invitation
Four Canterbury athletes have been invited to take part in a jubilee track and field meeting in Tahiti next month.
They are Wayne Paul (400 m hurdles), John Sta-pylton-Smith (javelin), Phillip Clode (1500 m and Colin McDonald (1500 m Stapylton-Smith has already qualified for the Edinburgh Commonwealth Games but may use the meeting as part of his prepara-
Paul has yet to qualify, and this may represent another chance.
Henry Smith (Wellington), the New Zealand shot and discus champion, and the Commonwealth Games javelin champon, Mike O’Rourke (Auckland), have also been invited.
O’Rourke, however, is unlikely to accept. He recently announced his retirement.
