Hartshorn on unbeaten 77
NZPA-AAP Canberra Two wickets in the final hour took the gloss away from New Zealand’s five for 234 on the first day of the first Youth cricket test against Australia at Canberra’s Manuka Oval yesterday. The New Zealand captain, David Hartshorn, remained not out on 77 along with the vice-cap-tain and wicket-keeper, Shane Robinson, on one. The other batsman to get among the runs was Brian Spragg, who was eventually out for 72 to a juggling catch at mid-on off the bowling of the South Australian oftspinner, David McNeil.
For Australia, the New South Wales speedster, Chris Killen, claimed the wickets of .Grant Bradburn, caught behind for 31, and Blair Hartland, caught at short forward leg for four, in the final hour with the second new ball.
Killen finished the best
of the bowlers with three for 56 off 28 overs, claiming the wicket of the opener, Rob McKinlay, in the first session for 11. McNeil finished with one for 54 off 19 overs with the N.S.W. fast bowler, Paul Stepto, claiming the wicket of the other opener Peter Dobbs for 14.
