Apprentice found responsible for fall
The Washdyke apprentice, Gary Taylor, was suspended up to and including February 15 at an adjourned inquiry into the fall of four horses in The Dallington on the first day of, the Canterbury Jockey Club’s summer meeting at Riccarton last Saturday. The club’s judicial committee yesterday found Taylor guilty of careless riding in that he allowed his mount, Polacca, to shift inwards when ot sufficiently clear and force Steiger (Danny Frye), inwards. This resulted in Steiger clipping the heels of Geisen (Grant Elliott) which was immediately ahead.
Steiger fell and brought down Berber (Les Didham). Half a Carat (Warren Stephenson) and Sweet King (Jackie Jamieson). Tane Matthews, the rider of White Lie in the Tanqueray Gin Handicap yesterday, was suspended up to and including February 13, one riding day, when he weighed in three parts of a kilogram in excess of his weigh-out weight.
