Clean sweep in wrestling
PA Auckland Canada completed a clean sweep of their fourtest wrestling series against New Zealand with a 7-0 win at Manurewa.
The best effort by a New Zealander was from the experienced Ken Reinsfield. In liis first bout since the Olympic Games nearly 18 months ago, Reinsfield was beaten, 5-4, on points by Ken Bradford.
Reinsfield’s younger brother, Steven, showed he is not too far from the form which won him a silver medal in the 1982 Commonwealth Games in Brisbane.
He was beaten, 7-2, by the 1985 Commonwealth Cup champion, Mitch Ostburg, in the 56kg class.
The lack of heavier New Zealanders meant
Robert Algie had to wrestle twice. That effort told as he failed to win a point in either bout.
Algie lost first to Steven Marshall in the 90kg class and then in the 100 kg class to the experienced Clark Davies, who has twice won silver medals in the world championships and took the gold in the 90kg class in Brisbane.
