Warrior to rest at Matauri Bay?
PA Whangarei The Rainbow Warrior will end her days under water off Matauri Bay, in spite of a bid to beach the wreck at Paeroa, says Mr Dover Samuels, co-ordina-tor for the Matauri Bay proposal. The Paeroa Historical Maritime Park Board has asked Greenpeace to float the vessel up the Waihou River, where she would be put on land as a museum exhibit. Mr Samuels said he already had an agreement with Greenpeace for the Matauri Bay proposal, and that agreement would not be broken. “I have had about 50 calls from Northlanders wondering what is going on,” he said. “It would be a shame for the Rainbow Warrior to be high and dry, and be covered with graffiti.” Mr Samuels said the Paeroa board was one group of many which wanted the ship “for commercial reasons.” “We at Matauri Bay have put in a lot of preparation in relation to the final resting place of the vessel.
