Wyllie true to form
Alex Wyllie has been true to character in naming his team for Sunday’s charity cricket match at Rangiora’s Dudley Park. Wyllie often keeps players guessing until the last moment as to whether they are in his rugby teams and for Sunday’s game, against a Canterbury Promotion Council XI, he has selected 14 players with the final eleven to be named on Sunday morning. The 14 on the shortlist are:
Dale Atkins, Doug Bruce, Munay Davie, Bruce and Robbie Deans, Craig Green, Don Hayes, Jock Hobbs, Joe Leota, Allan Lindsay, Victor Simpson, Wayne Smith, Warwick Taylor and Wyllie himself. The Promotion Council’s XI is David Carroll, Miles Davidson, Chris Doig, Bruce Dunstan, Barry and Martin Hadlee, Brian Hastings, Gareth James, Frank Rapley, Ray Sleeman and Charles Sumner. The Wizard will act as twelfth man. The match, a 40-over one, will begin at noon.
