NZPA-ReuterKingstown, St Vincent England’s cricketers suffered a demoralising sevenwicket defeat against the Windward Islands in the opening match of their West Indies tour. The Windwards, bottom of the Shell Shield championship, and considered the region’s weakest team, needed only an hour on the fourth
and final day to reach a victory target of 113 after resuming at one for 77. England, bowled out for an embarrassing 94 in its second innings was due to leave for Antigua, where it will play the Leeward Islands in another four-day match.
Scores: England 187 and 94; Windward Islands 168 and 114 for 3.
