Timber harvest 'will double’
PA Auckland The amount of timber available for harvest in New Zealand will double between 1990 and 2000, a United States Commerce Department report says. The report, published in the department’s- international trade magazine, “Business America," also predicts that New Zealand
companies will spend $4 billion on saw, pulp and paper mills over the next 30 years.
It added that the forestry industry spends about $94 million a year on replacement equipment A New Zealand Forest Service spokesman said the report’s figures were “re-, markably, accurate.”
